This is something that might be lost to you, if you don't live somewhere where the hills roll out across the landscape and the roads offer miles and miles of breathtaking vistas.  Here in Kansas (not flat at all, btw) we have hilltops begging for historic images of pioneers and natives.  Our hometown has had these silhouettes standing sentinel on our four entrances for years.  We recently were able to replace them with some sturdier material and sink their supports deep into the rocky hilltops they adorn.
